What is wrong with "The Source"?

This morning I decided to get my quick fill of "The Village Voice" and I saw a letter in the editorial section, from David Mays co-founder and CEO of The Source (for those who don't know it's a hip hop magazine which is almost like The Rolling Stone), responding to an article that was featured in the Voice. The article titled "The Source under fire" was written by Aina Hunter and discussed several legal matters and other issues that that the magazine was going through. When I read Mr. Mays' letter I was severly dissappointed that he tried to address the credibility of the article that was written. He accused Ms. Hunter of misleading the readers with some of the information that was in the article. For example, he cited that the EEOC case that the magazine was involved in was closed, which Ms. Hunter also stated was closed but that the plaintiffs were now going to take to a federal court. I think Mr. May has lost all crediblity with his letter since he obviously didn't read Hunter's article all the way through.

Now I do have a complaint about The Source. I think it doesn't serve a real purpose other than to try to create beef amongst hip-hop artists. A great example, is when they portrayed rapper Eminem as a racis based upon an interview he had when he in his early teens. The guys are a joke plain and simple. The only enjoyment I get out of the magazine is going to the PX and looking at the ads in the very back of the magazine, only because they have ads for porno's back there. Other than that though, I could care less about the magazine. I'm disgusted with how hip-hop has become so commercial. I long for the days when hip-hop had a message (mainly political) and it wasn't about the bling bling, hoes, and cash. Now don't get me wrong I listen to the music today but if I had my choice I would listen to Public Enemy's "Fear of a Black Planet" any day over some of the albums out now. Hell I'll even take Wu-Tang. The best magazine I've enjoyed that relates to hip-hop is SCRATCH magazine I've never gone wrong with this mag. I just wish it was just a little more indepth and much bigger. Now I think XXL may have a part in the creation of Scratch, but I don't pay attention to XXL and could care less about it as well.

By the way I may finally be returning to Atlanta after so many months away (it seems like years) so I may take a break to get piss drunk and use to the States once again. So forgive if I don't keep posting for a little bit. Also I may start getting ready to run for political office once I get back there, but I will definitely be working on my movie.
